Day 1: COMPACT 2015 opening day

(4:21 PM) According to Celene Villon, a student of COM42, it is nice to be informed and be familiar with the folk traditions and culture of Cavite. (Ericka May Torres)

(4:20 PM) 10 Virgins of Cavite Exhibit opened today at the Museo La Salle. According to Mr. Andrei Arriola, head of the exhibit, it is about the different forms of the Virgin Mary. The Zaguan hall is open until February 13 for visitors. (Ara Magpantay)

(4:11 PM) Jeffrey Lubang tackled mainly about folk traditions that are rooted in Cavite such as the use of anting-anting or medallions, and Karakol. According to him, the anting-anting is once used by the soldiers as protection from harm. Moreover, he also pointed out that it is noticeable that the way Caviteños celebrate Karakol has been changing in terms of choice of music, where modern songs are used like the novelty song “otso-otso.” (Danielle Lois Tubije)

(4:08 PM) Cavite Folk Tradition, Culture and Arts Seminar open forum, where students are given the chance to ask questions to the speaker, is happening at this moment at the Tanghalang Julian Felipe. According to Mr. Jeffrey Lubang, the event’s speaker, Caviteños are religious, and fond of celebrating festivals that give way to the different cuisines native here in the province. (Aiko Castro)

(4:05 PM) Jornaleen Ayuyao, President of Communication Program Council: The head of COMPACT 2015 decided to be in hand with the La Sallian Festival’s theme, which is culture. Tomorrow would be the student paper’s presentation and on Wednesday is the awarding of photography contest. This week will be jam-packed with more activities that will surely cater and promote the culture of Cavite. (Florence Rio Bistoyong)

(4:00 PM) One of the most awaited events for the COMPACT this year is the annual Fashion Expo. According to Ms. Nicole Bernal, one of the organizers, the bottles were set and released, where coins will be collected as a support for each contestant from Communication and Journalism, in the light of helping the scholars and will determine the People’s Choice Awardees. This year’s theme is cavite’s different unique products representing its cities and towns. (Selina Patricia Lim)

(11:40 AM) – Designers for the Fashion Exposure are busy preparing the costumes that will be modeled by representatives of Communication and Journalism students this Friday. Nicole Bernal, Head of the Fashion Expo is confident that the event will be a success. She also added that there is an online campaign in facebook, wherein the candidates with the most likes will receive the “People’s Choice Award” (Paula Hernandez)

(11:20 AM) – A thanksgiving mass for the COMPACT 2015 will be held at the University Chapel at 12:00 – 1:00 in the afternoon. Students and the faculty from Communication and Journalism Department (CJD) are expected to attend the mass celebration. (Samantha Morales)

(11:18 AM) – Communication and Journalism students are now preparing for another Exhibit at Julian Felipe grounds. Different festivities of Cavite like Tinapahan, Tahong and Kabute can be seen booth by booth. – (Aya Pornel)

(11:16 AM) – An Exhibit showcasing the Re-packaged and Re-branded Cavite products are being organized by fourth year Advertising and Public Relations students. The Exhibit will be held at second floor Julian Felipe Building opening at 1:00 in the afternoon. – (Aya Pornel)

(11:14 AM) – CLA students expressed their interest in the Photographs displayed at Museo de Lasalle. Gianne and JC said, “Interesting po kasi hindi pangkaraniwan malaman ang tungkol sa Virgins of Cavite”.

(9:53 AM) – Students start to enter at Sarmiento Panlilio Hall at Museo De La Salle to get a glimpse of the Virgins of Cavite, taken from different places in the province (Rosario, Imus, Dasmariñas, Tagaytay, Magallanes, Naic, Maragondon). Aside from the virgins, the exhibit also features the different festivals celebrated by each town. – (Coleen Manalaysay)

(9:48 AM) – Ms. Aurora Balibay said COMPACT 2015 will be able to show many aspects of Cavite’s culture. Aside from the exhibits at Museo De La Salle, several exhibits created by 4th Communication students such as Ilog Maria, Don Roberto, and Kesofina, and Samala rice cake can also be seen at JFH Hallway. (9:43 AM) – One of the Blessed Virgins of Cavite was found in Silang by a faithful named Andres.
