DLSU-D ranks 4th in the Psychometrician Board Exam
De La Salle University- Dasmarinas (DLSU-D) grad, Jehnnylie V. Beringuel, ranked 4th in the Psychometrician Licensure Board Exam. Out of 4,466 examiners, 2,061 passed the examination. Aside from DLSU-D, University of Sto. Thomas, University of the Philippines, Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology and De La Salle University- Manila topped the test. Examinations were held on July this year, in different areas in the Philippines, such as Cebu, Davao, Legazpi, Baguio and Manila.
Binay remembers SAF44
Vice President Jejomar Binay remembered the 44 members of PNP’s Special Action Forces or SAF in what he called as the “true” SONA. The 44 SAF troopers were brutally killed in the bloody Mamasapano encounter which occurred in Maguindanao, January this year. Binay also condemned President Benigno Aquino III’s failure to thank the late troopers who sacrificed their lives for service. On the other hand, Justice Secretary Leila De Lima said that the President could not mention the SAF troopers in his SONA as the investigation is still on-going. Binay’s “true” SONA speech was delivered in the gymnasium of Cavite State University in Indang Cavite.
Manila government, DSWD create local task forces to help homeless families
The Department of Social and Welfare Development (DSWD) and Manila government form local task forces to help homeless families in the city under the Oplan Bahay Sagip-Buhay. DSWD-NCR Director Alicia Bonoan said that 27 barangay task forces are now being created to recognize homeless families. These groups of people will be covered by the Modified Conditional Cash Transfer Program (MCCT) which will supply financial assistance to them to rent for their new houses. DSWD will knock on Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and other private sectors to help the family members acquire jobs.
Government gross borrowing rises 4.51% in May
The government monthly borrowing reached its lowest at P22.2 billion as of the month of May, as per the data of the Bureau of the Treasury. The external borrowings through the program and project loans from multilateral lenders hit P760 million last May, which was confirmed as the lowest for the first five months of the year. Ten years ago, the debt stock reached 68.5 percent of GDP, before trimming down to 50 percent since 2013.
German automakers buy Nokia’s mapping software service
Finnish telecoms company Nokia is selling their own version of mapping service called ‘Here’ to three German car makers BMW, Audi, and Mercedes Benz for 2.8 billion Euros. According to the statement of Nokia, the transaction is expected to end during the first quarter of the year 2016. ‘Here’ is an application considered as a direct competition of the popular application Google Maps. Nokia bought the said application from US Tech Company called Navteq for $8.1 billion last 2008. Meanwhile, the three German car makers said that they would have equal shares of the profit from the sale.
