As part of Green FM’s celebration of its tenth year anniversary, Balitaktakan invited former Broadcast Journalism Program Council President Eunice Samonte. She was joined by BJPC President Jane Antonio and BJPC Fourth Year Representative Carlotte Bofill as they discuss some of the latest and hottest news today.
One of the latest news they discussed on air was the shooting of an American reporter and cameraman in Virginia, which was aired live on TV. Reporter Alison Parker was doing an interview at Bridgewater near Moneta when an unidentified gunman shot her and her cameraman, Adam Ward, several times. Talking about the dangers of being a journalist, Bofill said to students, especially those who are aspiring to be broadcast journalists in the future, to not let news like this scare them into pursuing this kind of profession. The hosts also talked about how reporters should always be careful, especially when they’re on the field, because they don’t know what may happen while they were working on the field.
Another news discussed was the disqualification case against Senator Grace Poe. Recently, former senatorial candidate Rizalito David filed a disqualification case against Poe saying that she is not qualified to run for presidency on the 2016 Elections because she is not a natural born Filipino. Meanwhile, the Senate Electoral Tribunal or SET which is comprised of Justice Antonio Carpio, Senators Loren Legarda, Vicente “Tito” Sotto III and Paolo Benigno “Bam” Aquino IV, said that they will be fair in making a decision regarding the case. President Benigno Aquino III also said that they can come up with a decision which is not based on which political party they belong to, he added that they will only do their job as senators and that is to come up with a decision fairly. The hosts talked about how this debate on Poe’s citizenship has been going on since before she became the chairperson of the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB), but Poe has already renounced her US citizenship even before she became the MTRCB chairperson. According to the hosts, people are just bringing this issue back because she tops every poll on presidential candidates.
Before the show ended, guest alumni Eunice Samonte expressed her gratitude to Green FM and also mentioned how she missed hosting Balitaktakan, which she regularly hosted last year while still serving as the BJPC president. She also congratulated Green FM on its tenth year anniversary and wished them good luck in the years to come.
