Isabela’s Magat Dam nears spilling level

The National Irrigation Administration (NIA) officials have instructed the executives of Magat Dam in Ramon, Isabela Province to start releasing water from the dam after it reached the spilling level.

The Magat Dam reached its spilling level due to heavy rain in the watershed area in the past few days

According to Wilfredo Gloria the Operations Manager of NIA- Magat River Integrated Irrigations System, the water in the Dam reached 192.52 meters above sea level slightly below the 193 spilling level of it.

Gloria also added that the officials have opened a spillway gate last Sunday, September 27.

18 millimeters of rainfall was added in Magat Dam.


MMDA Chief joins senate race 

Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chief Francis Tolentino is joining the 2016 senatorial race.

During a gathering of Cavite politicians at a restaurant along Roxas Boulevard in Pasay City, Tolentino said he has received the blessings of President Aquino.

Tolentino said 23 mayors, seven congressmen, and 23 vice mayors from Cavite are backing his candidacy.

SSS salary contributions of 77,000 employers unremitted

Almost 77,000 employers did not remit the Social Security System (SSS) salary contributions which is allotted to their employees last 2014, and the amount of the unremitted contribution is 8 billion pesos, as per Commission on Audit (COA).

Vice President for Public Affairs Marissu Bugante said that the delinquencies of the employers will affect the benefits that employees would be receiving.

The COA also warned the SSS to monitor accounts and to take legal actions for companies and firms that will not follow the regulations.

Lightning struck national hero’s statue due to heavy rain 

Lightning “beheaded” the statue of Dr. Jose Rizal in Biñan, Laguna due to heavy rain.

Biñan City Mayor Len Naguiat took a photo of the statue while its head was missing. Naguiat said that same problem occurred when the belfy of Biñan Church was also struck by lightning in the late 1800s.

The local government is now working for the restoration of the statue. It is said that it was sculpted by National Artist Guillermo Tolentino.

DOH launches website to track medicine prices

The Department of Health (DOH) recently launched its new website where people can check the price and the availability of the medicine in their area.

DOH Health Secretary Janette Loreto Garin explained that the Drug Price Watch (DPW) website will provide transparent and comparative price information of over 120 basic essential medicines from leading drug stores and public hospital pharmacies nationwide.

The launching of the website is in accordance to the Republic Act 9502 or “An act that Providing Cheaper and Quality Medicines”.
