Missing Cavite hiker, found on Mt. Marami

A male hiker was rescued on Mt. Marami in Maragondon, Cavite, four days after he was reported missing. Alex Lagata, 24, a resident of Bacoor City in Cavite, was found in an abandoned hut on the mountain trail before noon on Wednesday, said Senior Insp. Jay Caparas, Maragondon police chief. Lagata, however, lost his way and was never able to meet with his group. The other hikers reported him missing on Monday, prompting the search and rescue operation. The 405-meter Mt. Marami is one of the favorite hiking trails in Maragondon. Although it is relatively neither too high nor difficult, it is known for its “confusing” trails, according to the hiking website Pinoy Mountaineer.


Leni Roberdo to run as Roxas’ VP

From being the strong grieving widow of Jesse Robredo, Camarines Sur 3rd District Rep. Maria Leonor “Leni” Gerona-Robredo has declared her plans to be the running mate of standard-bearer Mar Roxas in the 2016 national elections. Robredo said that it took her a long time before she finally decided on this matter because her three daughters were at first against Roxas’ invitation to make Robredo his vice president. During her speech in the announcement of the Roxas-Robredo tandem, the congresswoman shared that in her 25 years of marriage, it was always her husband who was in the political limelight. However, she explained that her own husband would not sleep until he had done everything he can to help those in need.


TUCP urges gov’t to include farmers in mitigation plans

The Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP) calls for the inclusion of workers in the agriculture sector in mitigation plans being drawn up by national and local government units due to El Niño threat. At least 800,000 to one million workers may lose their jobs in the next six months if there would be no alternative solution from the government.


LRT bidding, open for different companies

The Ayala Corporation, Aboitiz Equity Ventures, San Miguel Corporation, DMCI Holdings Inc. will join the bidding of Light Rail Transit (LRT) 4 that sums up to P42.89 billion and LRT-6 PPP project for P64.71 billion. According to PPP Center Executive Director Cosette Canilao, the said companies are waiting for formal invitations in the bidding and publication process. Furthermore, the Transportation Department is preparing for its quarterly pre-qualification. LRT-4 and LRT-6 projects were approved last month for National Economic Development Authority’s rollout.


Dengue cases drop in 10 regions, says Malacañang

A Palace official said that dengue cases recorded a decline in 10 regions. The provinces of Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan are among regions that recorded the highest decline, with 1,346 cases from a high of 1,646. It was followed by Bicol region, Western Visayas and Central Visayas. Eastern Visayas Region ranked fifth, followed by Zamboanga Region and Northern Mindanao. Davao region ranked eighth followed by the provinces of South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani and General Santos while the last is Caraga region.
