Gov’t allots 1 billion fund for climate change
The national government has allotted one billion budget for People’s Survival Fund (PSF) that will be accessed soon by local government units (LGUs) and local community organizations for adaptation of climate change projects.
According to Department of Finance (DOF) the P1 billion fund will be used in protecting in danger or at risk structures from the effects of climate change. The fund will also cover water resources and land management, agriculture, fisheries and health. The fund will also be used for setting up warning systems against climate-related hazards.
Grace Poe seeks more time to submit DNA results to SET
The camp of Sen. Grace Poe has asked the Senate Electoral Tribunal (SET) for more time to submit the results of DNA testing to trace her family, amid lingering questions on her citizenship.
SET spokesperson and secretary Irene Guevarra said on Wednesday the lawmaker’s camp had requested a two-week extension for the submission of the DNA results. The camp’s deadline was supposed to be today.
She said that the SET has yet to rule on whether or not to approve the extension plea, adding that copies of the motion have yet to be distributed to the nine members of the tribunal.
Poe herself confirmed last month that she underwent a DNA test to prove that she was a Filipino and born of Filipino parents.
Aquino invites Russian President to APEC, AELM next month
President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III invited Russian President Vladimir Putin to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders’ Meeting (AELM) in Manila this November.
According to Senate President Franklin Drilon, he handed Aquino’s letter of invitation for Putin to Russian Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
On the other hand, Lavrov expressed his appreciation on his invitation and “said that Putin is looking forward to visiting Manila in November.”
The Philippines will be hosting APEC meetings including the AELM on November 18 and November 19.
The meeting is expected to be attended by the heads of state of the 21 member economies of the APEC.
Crown Asia gets contract to supply NAIA Expressway Project
The Crown Asia gets the agreement to supply PVC pipes to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Expressway Phase Two project amounting to P15.86-billion which has started construction this month.
The NAIA Expressway project is a Public Private Partnership (PPP) that will interconnect NAIA and PAGCOR Entertainment City. According to Derrick Villanueva, the Crown Asia Pipes Division general manager, the quality of their product has made them a trusted partner for government projects. He also added that PPP projects gives a long-term benefits to the public in which they also ensure to maintain that quality standard.
Sandiganbayan grants Arroyo for a two-day medical checkup
The Sandiganbayan granted former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to undergo a two-day medical checkup from Wednesday to Thursday at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Quezon City yesterday, October 21.
The Veterans Memorial Medical Center, where she has been under police custody since 2012, does not have necessary equipment for Arroyo’s medical tests, its doctors noted.
Arroyo is under hospital arrest for the plunder charges filed against her in connection with the P365-million Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) fund anomaly during her term as leader, reports from The Philippine Star.
