Supreme Court validates Poe’s presidential candidacy

The Supreme Court finally allowed Senator Grace Poe to run in the presidential elections this May 2016. With the vote of 9-6, majority of the SC was in favor of Poe’s petition to dismiss Commission on Election (COMELEC)’s decision disqualifying Poe because of the issue regarding her citizenship and residency.

Those who are in favor of Poe were Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno, Associate Justices Presbitero Velasco, Diosdado Peralta, Lucas Bersamin, Jose Perez, Jose Mendoza, Marvic Leonen, Benjamin Caguioa, At Francis Jardeleza.

On the other hand, Senior Associate Justice Antonio Carpio, Associate Justices Teresita Leonardo-De Castro, Arturo Brion, Mariano Del Castillo, Bienvenido Reyes, and Estela Perlas-Bernabe opposed the said case/issue.

Voters receipt ruling priority on appeals

Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Chairman Andres Bautista admits more focused on the matter of Voters receipt than appealing the ruling of Supreme Court on Sen. Grace Poe disqualification case.

According to Bautista, Poe’s disquaification case may be given to private petitioners, especially a motion has already been filed. Their top priority involves voters receipt ruling of SC as this may cause delay on the preparations of the 2016 elections.

Cavite: special holiday on March 22 in celebration of Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo

President Benigno Aguino III declares March 22nd as a special non-working day in celebration of Cavite’s Emilio Aguinaldo anniversary.

General Emilio Aguinaldo is the Philippine Republic’s first president. According to Proclamation No. 1231 that was signed last February 29, it is only right that the Caviteños have their opportunity to commemorate and take part in the occasional ceremonies.

The president also issued a number of proclamations that states special holidays for different provinces for the month of March.

More athletes ruled out due to positivity to Meldonium drug usage

The World Anti-Doping Agency prohibited Russia’s top athletes to compete because of Meldonium usage.

According to the agency, players like international volleyball player Alexander Markin, speed skating world champion Pavel Kulizhnikov, and short track olympic champion Semen Yelistratov were part of the list. The results that proved positivity were released right after Maria Sharapova confessed failure to dope test in the Australian Open.
