COMELEC admits ‘exhaustive’ presidential debate
The Commission on Elections (COMELEC), together with Kapisanan ng mga Broadkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP), say that the presidential debate in Performing Arts Hall of the University of the Philippines, Cebu was exhaustive yet successful.
COMELEC Chairman Andres Bautista said they are certain to address the problems that occurred in the previous debate held in Cagayan De Oro.
Instead of the 2-hour debate, COMELEC extended it to 3-hour long, and limited the number of TV commercials. They have also provided the presidential candidates to have enough time to interact with one another.
“No Lenten Break” for COMELEC
Amidst the lenten break, Commission on Elections (COMELEC) continues to work in preparation for the upcoming elections.
COMELEC Chairman Andres Bautista said they need to catch up with the two-week dilatory of schedule due to the Supreme Court’s decision to release voter’s receipts on the day of election. Despite their motion for reconsideration, the court dismissed the appeal.
While some of the employees under the poll body can go on a vacation, people from the technical division remains on job now that they are currently on the configuration of the vote counting machines kept in a warehouse in Sta. Rosa, Laguna.
Malacañang defends Pampanga Gov. for supporting Roxas
The Malacañang Palace defended Pampanga Governor Lilia Pineda for endorsing the administration presidential bet, former DILG Sec. Mar Roxas.
Pineda is a member of National Unity Party and a close ally of former President and now Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal- Arroyo.
In an interview with Communications Undersecretary Manuel Quezon III, the administration is welcome with politicians who would want to live with Daang Matuwid principles in fighting corruption and pursuing good governance.
He also added that according to the President, any politician is welcome as an addition in the coalition as long as the official is willing the serve the people first above all.
It was after Pineda expressed her support to Roxas, his running mate Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo and to the whole candidates of Liberal Party (LP)
She also praised the investment made by the administration in the infrastructures in Pampanga as well as their programs such as Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program or 4Ps.
Bohol LP spokesperson shot dead
A spokesperson of Liberal Party (LP) in Bohol was shot dead while sleeping in his own house by an unidentified suspect.
SPO4 Oman Khan Valdez identified the victim as 51-year-old Amado Nitollama of Brgy. Macaas.
According to the police, the murder might be associated with political intentions.
Valdez added that the victim had been receiving death threats before the incident happened.
62 dead on Russia plane crash
A Dubai plane en route to Russia crashed after its landing attempt in Rostovondov airport on Saturday, Mar. 8, leaving 62 of its passengers and crew dead.
Russia’s emergency ministry said that the Boeing 737-800 was operated by a Dubai-based budget carrier, FlyDubai.
Before the tragic crash, the two pilots of the aircraft made attempts for safe landing but the rear part of the plane was already clipped on land.
In a statement released by the Investigative Committee of Russia, the aircraft crushed into pieces, making it impossible to save any of the 62 lives on board.
